NEENAH, Wis (WSAU-Wheeler News) An attorney for the family of a man killed by police at a store in Neenah says the victim was actually a hostage who was running off when he was shot.
Milwaukee lawyer Cole White is representing the family of 60-year-old Michael Funk of Neenah. The shooting occurred Saturday during a standoff at Eagle Nation Cycles, a motorcycle shop.
Neenah Police say the officers shot a man who did not drop his weapon while leaving. Officials say a bullet bounced off an officer’s helmet, and that person was treated at a hospital and later released. A man was taken into custody after long negotiations.
The state Justice Department is investigating the police shooting.
Neenah Police were still looking for a motive at last word. Attorney White also represents the store’s owner. He tells WLUK TV of Green Bay that the gunman wanted a motorcycle back after selling it to another person who brought it into the shop for work — and the situation escalated after the suspect took hostages at the business.
