Oshkosh, WI (WTAQ) – Oshkosh Police are now apologizing for the delay in letting the public know that Austin Reynolds and Leland Larock had escaped from the Winnebago County Correctional Center.
The pair took off from the prison on Friday, but the media, and the public, wasn’t told until Tuesday.
No reason was given for the delay.
The P-D says area law enforcement was told right away.
Reynolds was recaptured in Green Bay yesterday, Larock remains on the loose.
Below, is the Oshkosh PD statement :
Good Morning.
I would like to address the question of our delay in releasing information related to the escape from Winnebago Correctional Center on Friday, October 9, 2015.
The Oshkosh Police Department understands the importance of getting information to the community in a timely manner and the role the media plays in reaching our citizens. With that said, we erred in not getting the information about the escape out to the community sooner than Tuesday, October 13, 2015. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused the public. It is our intention to improve how quickly we disseminate information to the media and the public about incidents affecting the community while not impeding any related investigation.
The Oshkosh Police Department has been actively working with other law enforcement agencies in Northeast Wisconsin since the escape was reported to us on Friday. Agencies have been pursuing leads that are related to each of the escapees. A law enforcement alert was also sent on the night of the escape to all law enforcement agencies in the East Central area of Wisconsin to be on the lookout for these subjects.
We thank you for your ongoing assistance in sharing our message with the community.
