WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ) – The woman accused of a drunken driving crash in 2012 which killed a teenager in Waupaca County has been convicted.
40-year-old Heather Schmidt pled no contest to a count of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle Monday. Prosecutors dropped a second count of homicide by use of a motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol content.
On July 19, 2012, authorities say a vehicle driven by Schmidt crossed the center line and slammed into 18-year-old Dylan Thorne’s car head-on.
Prosecutors didn’t file charges, however, until March 2014. Schmidt will be sentenced on September 30.
