FOX CROSSING, WI (WTAQ) – A Fox Crossing Police officer was taken to the hospital after being attacked by a suspect.
The officer was called to a home on Bartlein Court for a verbal disturbance over a dog around 6 pm Tuesday.
Police say that resident locked herself in her bedroom, and the suspect punched his way into the room.
The suspect reportedly attacked the woman and began strangling her. Upon arrival, the officer found a 17-year-old male with hand injuries.
Officer Jason Weber says “the teen went after her and actually punched his way in through that door. Once inside that room, he continued to go after her and actually started strangling her, to the point that she thought she was going to pass out.”
Police say the teen then became more agitated.
As the officer tried to arrest the teen for refusing multiple warnings to calm down and stop using profanity, Weber says the suspect started punching the officer in the head.
Weber notes “the officer get hit numerous times, but the officer was able to kind of struggle with this teen and pull him down to the ground.”
According to Weber, the involved officer activated an emergency button on his radio.
Several neighbors were outside and saw the struggle. They ran over to help get the suspect in handcuffs.
Weber notes the officer sought care at a local hospital.
“He had quite a bit of facial injuries. Evidently, he’s got a couple of teeth loose, but he was ultimately treated and released.”
The 17-year-old is facing several charges including strangulation and battery. He’s expected to appear in a Winnebago County courtoom Wednesday afternoon.
