SHERWOOD, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities are releasing the name of a kayaker whose body was pulled from Lake Winnebago last week.
55-year-old Warren Brown of Appleton was found in the lake around 7:30 a.m. Friday at the break wall of the High Cliff Marina in Sherwood, according to the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department.
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter had spotted something floating in the water, and Calumet and Winnebago county sheriff’s deputies, along with Menasha police officers, found the body in the water.
His kayak had been found about an hour and a half earlier, on the lake just off State Park Road.
Brown had put his kayak in at Jefferson Park in Menasha Thursday afternoon. Around 4:30 p.m., officials say he contacted a family member and said the ride was bumpy but he was having fun. After not hearing any more from him, family members called authorities around 3:30 a.m.
Authorities say Brown was wearing a life jacket and a suit appropriate for kayaking.
The cause of death will not be released until toxicology tests come back, sheriff’s officials say.
