UNDATED (WTAQ) – The hot shot new attorney representing Steven Avery may not be talking to the media about her efforts to exonerate him, but Kathleen Zellner sure is tweeting a lot about it.
Zellner, a Chicago-area based lawyer, agree to represent Avery earlier this month in the wake of the popular Netflix series “Making a Murderer“.
Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted of killing photographer Teresa Halbach in 2005.
But since the release of the 10-part docu-series late last year, a groundswell of support for Avery and Dassey has been felt across the globe. Along with that comes the universal scorn of the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department and anyone else involved in the 2007 convictions of both Avery and Dassey.
Almost immediately after announcing that she was taking the case, teaming up with Midwest Innocence Project legal director Tricia Bushnell, Zellner told the media that she was not doing any interviews preferring to focus on the case.
Recently, Zellner has tweeted about some of her findings and allegations.
- “Body was not burned in burn pit bc heat would have burned down Avery’s garage. A lot of junk science at the junkyard.”
- “Culprit had to remove his own DNA from key so TH’s removed in process. Rub key on Avery’s clothes for skin cells. Presto.”
- “The 22 removed from garage did not exit TH’s head. State expert failed to testify bullet exited — that 22 driven to scene.”
Avery has filed his latest appeal, without Zellner’s representation, seeking to have his murder conviction thrown out. The state has since responded.
