APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Appleton Health Department has reinstated most of the state’s ‘Safer At Home’ emergency extension several hours after the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned the original order issued by Health Services Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm on Wednesday.
City health officer Kurt Eggebrecht issued his own local ‘Safer At Home’ order late last night.
The order mirrors many of the same restrictions that had been effect since April 24 under Wisconsin Emergency Order 28.
“The City of Appleton is concerned about the safety and well-being of our citizens and those working in the city,” Eggebrecht said, “To that end, the City of Appleton is coordinating with the City of Menasha Health Department and health departments on Brown, Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago counties to continue all parts of the Safer at Home order.”
Appleton’s order takes effect at 8 a.m. this morning. It will be in effect until May 20th.
Legislative Republicans who sued to have the ‘Safer At Home’ extension overturned had asked the state Supreme Court to issue a six day injunction to ensure a smoother reopening transition.
The DHS extension that is no longer in effect would have lasted until May 26th.
