MADISON, WI (WHBL) — Wisconsin requires a valid ID in order to vote and, with the Spring Primary just weeks away, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation wants you to know that they’ll help you get proper identification free of charge.
Valid ID for voting purposes includes a driver license, identification card, military or student ID card and the like, but they emphasize that there’s no separate “voter ID.”
Applicants need the right documents, and a list of those is available at wisconsindmv.gov. If you can’t get those papers, a process called the “Voter ID Petition Process” can be used to quickly obtain a receipt that will allow you to vote while you get those remaining documents.
