MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Altoona Schools Superintendent accused of federal child sex crimes has been released from federal custody while he awaits trial.
Daniel Peggs was released on Monday without posting bond but did sign off on several conditions which include no contact with children and GPS monitoring. He will also not be allowed on any Altoona school property.
Additionally, Peggs will not be allowed to have access to the internet because a judge said it appears he has several fake social media accounts.
Officials say Peggs used an iPhone to record a sexual encounter with a minor girl in the winter of 2015. Officials believe that the incident is linked to a North Carolina case involving a 43-year-old man who knowingly transported a girl across state lines for sex.

Peggs’ wife reportedly said she was not going to allow him back into their home. Officials say he will be residing in Dane County for now.
He is currently scheduled to return to court on March 30th but that date is subject to change.
