GERMANTOWN, WI (WHBL) — One person is in custody in Germantown after an active shooter situation Wednesday morning.
Police said they received calls from several neighbors that a man was firing shots at a home at around 5am. When officers arrived at the scene, they were met with gunfire, according to Germantown police Chief Peter Hoell.
Officers took cover, then called in the Washington County SWAT team.
After negotiating with the man, he came outside, armed with handguns. He eventually surrendered and was arrested.
The suspect, who was not identified, is described as being in his 70’s and has mental health issues. Hoell said police are familiar with the man and have previously dealt with him.
The man is in custody and Hoell said he’ll likely face criminal charges. He’ll also be referred for mental health treatment.
A couple of schools in the area were initially put on lockdown. But after the arrest was made, the school day began as normal.
