ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – Ashwaubenon Public Safety chased down a suspected drunk driver Friday night and when they finally stopped her, found she had three children under the age of six in the car with her.
This all started around 10 p.m. in the 1700 block of Cormier Road when an SUV left the roadway. T
The vehicle nearly struck a house and then entered the back yard where it struck a tree.
Captain Jody Crocker, with Ashwaubenon Public Safety, says the vehicle kept going.
“The vehicle then crossed through the yard into the next neighbors yard, pretty much destroying all of the landscaping in the backyard,” explains Captain Crocker. “It then struck a utility pole and destroyed the pole.”
Even then, the driver continued to flee authorities.
“The vehicle then traveled again, trying to flee the scene, across that neighboring house, but then coming to rest on some landscaping stones, which held the vehicle from moving any further,” he says.
Officers responded to the scene along with Green Bay Metro Fire/Rescue who assisted in treating and accessing three children who were in the vehicle.
“And those children, ages 5, 2, and approximately 3-months-old, were checked out by Green Bay Metro Fire and they don’t believe that they sustained any injuries,” says Captain Crocker.
The trio of kids are the children of the alleged driver, 32-year-old Monica Mencheski, who also escaped the incident without suffering injury.
Mencheski was arrested for 2nd Offense OWI with minor children in the vehicle, 3 counts of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of drug paraphernalia and Operating while revoked.
Mensheski is currently held in the Brown County Jail awaiting formal charges.
