APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A home on East North Street in Appleton caught fire early Monday morning.
Crews were called to the home around 3:45. Deputy Chief Darrel Baker says the fire spread quickly.
“We learned that this was a basement fire but we are not sure exactly where it started.”
Baker says nobody was home at the time.
“Apparently, the power was just restored to this house just before the fire.”
Appleton fire responded to 154 incidents since Saturday.
Baker says they normally cover between 22-25 on a normal weekend.
Fire officials believe that fires could be starting because people are not turning their appliances off after their power went out.
He says once power is restored, the appliances also turn back on.
