MADISON, WI (MetroSource-WSAU) Governor Walker is urging state senators to return to Madison quickly to pass a multimillion-dollar incentive package for Kimberly-Clark. Walker said Thursday he’s working to find 17 votes in the Senate to pass the package.
The tax incentives already been approved by the state Assembly.
Kimberly-Clark says it would take a combination of labor concessions and tax credits to keep their Fox Crossing facility open. A union agreement was reached earlier this year.
The company says it needs to know about the state tax breaks by the end of the month.
The initial plan from February was to offer Kimberly Clark up to $117-million in incentives to keep two facilities open. Kimberly Clark has since said a non-woven plant in Neenah is certain to close. Some lawmakers say they might support a smaller incentives package. The GOP holds a 18-15 majority in the chamber. Several Republican senators have withheld their support from the plan.
