TOMAH, WI (WTAQ) – A Packer fan’s tradition continues this year even though he is not part of it.
For the last 17 years, a green and gold buggy has traveled from Tomah to Green Bay for the Packers first home game.
The man known as Packer Bob was in that buggy until this year.
Bob passed away last October, but family, including his nephew Jeremy Griesbach kept the tradition alive.
“I said Bob, make sure that buggy is ready because it is going to Lambeau with or without you.”
This year was the first year without Bob, and they also had to replace the horse that pulled the buggy last year after it broke its leg falling on ice.
Now, the journey is on and will complete this weekend.
“It just seemed like the right thing to do. He was really inspirational and a good guy that was always there for us when we needed him, so we just thought it was a good way to honor him.”
Griesbach says the trip itself is enjoyable.
“Lots of people screaming out the window “Go Pack Go”, lots of horns and lots of waving. That was one of Bob’s big things is that you wave to everybody.”
The family is once planning on nominating Packer Bob for the Packer Fan Hall of Fame this year.
