MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Governor Scott Walker issued an executive order on Friday, which authorized the activation of Wisconsin National Guard Troops for election day.
The order doesn’t provide any specifics to the troop’s mission, except “provide essential services to the Wisconsin Elections Commission.”
The National Guard’s cybersecurity team will be allowed to help the commission if requested, according to a news release from Walker’s office.
Such an order coming from a Governor is something that Commission spokesman Reid Magney can’t remember ever happening before.
Commission Executive Director Meagan Wolfe told reporters during a conference call on Friday that the troops will be ready if needed, which is the reason why they were activated.
