GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- A 1967 Corvette that once belonged to Packers’ Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr, is back in Green Bay for the next year.
The car was loaned to The Automobile Gallery for display and unveiled Thursday.
“It is just a neat car, the story and history behind it and just being able to showcase that here is a neat deal,” said Mike Mike Borlee, Automobile Gallery Executive Board Member.
Starr won the car after being named the MVP of Super Bowl I.
Later, the car was purchased after an auction by Steve Altieri of Wallingford, Connecticut.
Altieri is a devoted Packer fan, he developed a connection to Packer history. Borlee says Altieri felt the car should spend some time in Green Bay.
“50 years later he acquired ownership and graciously has lent us it here for about a year.”
The car is Goodwood Green, and is one of 4,293 Corvettes that had that color that year.
The car is complete with a black interior, a black soft top, and a 300 horsepower engine.
“The true value is really the history of the car and being the first vehicle awarded to a Super Bowl MVP which just happened to be a Packer.”
The tradition of awarding the Super Bowl MVP with keys to a new car continues today.
