GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Feel free to “Twist & Shout” Paul McCartney fans. The former member of The Beatles is coming to Lambeau Field next summer.
It was announced on Tuesday morning that Paul McCartney will be taking the stage June 8, 2019, as part of his Freshen Up U.S. Tour 2019.
The performance will be McCartney’s first ever concert in Green Bay.
“We’re honored to welcome Paul McCartney to Lambeau Field and we’re excited for Green Bay to host such a celebrated musician and iconic performer for the first time,” says Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. “We’re looking forward to fans of multiple generations joining us this summer for this historic show.”
Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean performed at Lambeau Field in 2015, while Billy Joel took the stage in June of 2017. Organizers are excited for Paul McCartney to continue the recent string of big-name acts performing at the historic venue.
“These are the type of things that when you go to bed at night you just kind of pinch yourself,” says Jason Wright, President of Live Nation Chicago. “You can’t believe it.”
Tickets go on sale December 10 at 10 AM and American Express® Card Members can get their tickets starting Wednesday.
Jason Wright explains how the event came together.
“He [McCartney] has a team that came to visit here and we took a tour of the facility,” he explains. “They came and saw a tremendous facility and really they understand the iconic nature of the stadium itself.”
Murphy commented that the timing of the announcement is symbolic as well.
“It is kind of fitting, you know, in our 100th season as we’re really looking back and celebrating the history of the Packers,” he says. “There’s no question, I think this is going to be a memorable evening.”
And for any lifelong Beatles or Paul McCartney fans, this might be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see him perform in their backyard.
“It really is one of those things where people will talk for decades and say, ‘were you there?’” says Wright.
After seeing Billy Joel come to Lambeau Field and now with plans to see Paul McCartney, Mark Murphy thinks it would take someone pretty boss to top that list.
“I’ve kind of been pushing for Bruce Springsteen, I’m just saying,” he says.
