KING, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A veterans cemetery in Waupaca County is getting nearly a million dollars to add capacity.
The Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery is receiving $982,675 from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Cemetery Grants Program. State officials say the money will be used to create room for 1,100 new in-ground cremains gravesites and upgrade landscaping and irrigation.
The 137-year-old cemetery is the final resting place for nearly 9,000 veterans and their spouses and defendants.
Another Wisconsin cemetery, the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, is receiving $931,500 for enhancements to parking, roadways, cortege assembly lanes, landscaping and irrigation.
