(WTAQ-WLUK) — As cold and flu season approaches, Gov. Tony Evers has signed an executive order aiming to ensure access to vaccines in Wisconsin.
The order directs the state Department of Health Services to monitor medical evidence and guidance on the COVID-19 vaccines. If needed, the order instructs DHS to issue standing orders or protocols regarding access to COVID-19 or other vaccines and clarifying how they should be administered.
The order directs the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to work with health care plans to keep people informed and limit the cost of vaccines.
The executive order comes after federal regulators approved updated COVID-19 shots while limiting their use for many Americans and removing one of the two vaccines available for young children.
Earlier this month, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. faced contentious questions from Congress about vaccine guidance and a series of firings and resignations at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
