GREENVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A workforce reduction is underway as Air Wisconsin begins the process of being sold to an aviation company based in Florida.
According to a notice filed with the state’s Department of Workforce Development, the Appleton-based charter airline has issued notices to its 252 employees (102 management and 150 represented employees) at the following locations that their positions may be impacted:
- Air Wisconsin Airlines (headquarters and hangar) – Appleton International Airport (ATW)
- Air Wisconsin Airlines (Milwaukee hangar)
- Air Wisconsin Airlines – General Mitchell International Airport (MKE)
It comes as Air Wisconsin Airlines LLC “signed a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) with Premier Shuttle Holdings (“Premier”), an affiliated holding company of the Slate Aviation group of companies, for the proposed sale of Air Wisconsin’s airline operation and certain assets.”
The notice says layoffs will start taking effect Oct. 28 and are “expected to be permanent.”
Other assets that are not included with the contemplated Premier transaction will remain with Air Wisconsin’s parent company, which will continue to pursue opportunities in aircraft, engine, and parts sales and leasing. This business will employee certain Air Wisconsin employees to support its operation.
Air Wisconsin has operated as regional airline since 1965. However, after losing a contract to provide service to American Airlines, Air Wisconsin announced layoffs in April.
