GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The next court step for a man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend is on hold until an attorney is found to represent him.
Floyd Simmons, 62, faces six charges, including attempted homicide, for allegedly trying to kill his girlfriend on Sept. 5 at Jackson Square Park.
In court Wednesday, another balance of initial appearance was scheduled for Oct. 9 to give the Public Defender’s office time to get him an attorney. After that, a preliminary hearing will be held.
Bond was set at $100,000 cash Tuesday.
Prosecutors say the incident happened Friday at the downtown Green Bay park. The victim, a 57-year-old woman, told officers she and Simmons got into an argument about her paying rent as she was planning to move into his apartment. The victim said Simmons then choked her. She was able to fight him off, and ran to a nearby hotel to call for help.
Police eventually found Simmons in downtown Green Bay. As officers were taking him in for questioning, the criminal complaint says he muttered, “should’ve killed that (expletive), should’ve stomped on her neck.”
Police say Simmons also made threats and used racial slurs against officers, and made sexual comments toward staff members at the Brown County Jail after he was arrested.
The criminal complaint also says police found a crack pipe on Simmons.
