VAN DYNE (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man and a woman from Green Bay with active warrants for their arrest were taken into custody after a high-speed chase in Fond du Lac County that reached over 130 mph.
Around 7:42 p.m. Thursday, a Fond du Lac County probationary deputy and K9 handler saw a vehicle pull out in front of another vehicle and nearly cause a crash on Van Dyne Road at Main Street in Van Dyne. The vehicle also had tinted windows and an obstructed rear license plate.
When deputies made contact with the two occupants, they initially refused to provide identification and deputies could detect the odor of intoxicants coming from the suspect vehicle. The driver rapidly accelerated away from the deputies and a pursuit ensued south on Van Dyne Rd. The suspect vehicle then passed other vehicles in the opposite lane of traffic over a bridge.
The deputies pursued the suspect vehicle with their emergency lights and sirens activated, which the suspect vehicle failed to yield to. The vehicle accelerated to speeds over 130 mph.
As the vehicle neared the Village of North Fond du Lac on Van Dyne Road, a North Fond du Lac police officer successfully deployed a tire deflation device, deflating two of the tires.
The vehicle continued to travel into the Village of North Fond du Lac at speeds around 70 mph while going through a stop sign before the vehicle struck a curb and came to rest on Prospect Avenue at Garfield Street.
The driver, a 24-year-old Green Bay woman, was taken into custody.
The passenger, a 36-year-old Green Bay man, ran from the vehicle. Deputies, officers, and K9 Iro went out looking for the man. Bystanders assisted in directing the deputies to catch up to the suspect where he was taken into custody without further incident.
K9 Kubo conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle and inside, illicit substances and drug paraphernalia were found.
Officers also learned the driver also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The driver had an open case and was on a $500 cash bond for a felony case through Outagamie County for retail theft, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia which had modifiers of party to a crime and repeat offender.
The passenger had two active warrants for their arrest. The passenger was on active probation through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The passenger had an open case and was on a $500 cash bond for a felony case through Milwaukee County for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting or obstructing an officer which had modifiers of a habitual criminality repeater.
The pursuit lasted approximately 5.75 miles. No civilians or officers were injured. No Sheriff’s Office squads or civilian vehicles sustained any damage.
