SEYMOUR, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Seymour Community School District is fueling up with cleaner, greener buses for the new school year.
In partnership with Kobussen Buses, the district will operate a fleet of 21 Blue Bird Vision Propane school buses entirely running on clean-operating propane autogas.
Near-zero emission propane vehicles reduce smog-producing emissions, eliminate particulate matter and lower nitrogen oxides by 95% compared with diesel.
Each of the new 77-passenger school buses comes equipped with a 7.3L V8 Ford engine and ROUSH CleanTech propane fuel system. The buses retain equivalent horsepower, torque, and warranty coverage as its gas and diesel counterparts.
President of Kobussen Buses Ltd., Dan Kobussen, says these buses come with a lot of perks.
“It’s greener, it’s quieter, it saves fuel, it’s just a better product all the way around,” Kobussen said. “We have instituted the technology and we think it’s going to save us and the school district money in the long term.”
He also adds that the heating system in them is better as well.
The buses are equipped with cameras, anti-skid control and air disk brakes, which allows the bus to stop in shorter distances than its other counterparts.
The buses will be fueled at a recently installed propane station located at Kobussen’s Seymour facility. Country Visions Cooperative will serve as the fuel provider for the first five years. For the 2025-26 school year, Kobussen has a locked-in rate of $1.20 per gallon of propane.
Kobussen has more than 200 propane buses operating at other school districts in the area including Oshkosh and Lodi.
If you’re looking for a part-time job, Kobussen says they’re always looking for drivers.
