NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Neenah is shining a spotlight on lighthouse preservation.
In celebration of National Lighthouse Day, Neenah Mayor Jane Lang and other city officials are announcing a fundraising campaign for the Kimberly Point Lighthouse Preservation Project.
The project focuses on preserving the landmark and ensuring ADA accessibility, rebuilding the lighthouse’s interior, and restoring exterior features.
The goal is to raise half of the estimated $565,000 construction costs through donations from the community.
The Kimberly Point Lighthouse is listed on the Wisconsin State Registry of Historical Places. According to the Wisconsin Historical Society, it was built in 1945 as a gift from J. C. Kimberly, son of Kimberly-Clark founder J. A. Kimberly to serve as a city park rest station and as a landmark for boat races held at the northern end of Lake Winnebago.
