(WTAQ-WLUK) — Outagamie County and the YMCA of the Fox Cities are partnering to develop a new childcare center at the Brewster Street campus.
According to officials, this will create 100 additional childcare spaces for the county and surrounding areas. It’s part of an Outagamie County initiative to better support working families and provide high-quality, affordable childcare.
The project started back in January 2024, when Outagamie County reached out to local childcare providers to see if they had any interest in teaming up with the county to establish a daycare facility that would offer priority enrollment for children of county employees. The YMCA expressed strong interest, and the two organizations began collaborative planning efforts.
Last month, the Outagamie County Board of Supervisors formally approved the agreement between the county and the YMCA. Outagamie County will oversee and fund renovations to a portion of the existing Brewster Street building, and the YMCA will furnish the facility and manage operations and staffing.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting the workforce and enhancing family-friendly policies,” said Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson in a news release.
We are thrilled to be working with the YMCA, an organization known for its leadership in child development and community service.
The goal is for the childcare center to begin welcoming families by August 2027. County staff and the YMCA say they envision a vibrant, functional space tailored to early childhood development.
Currently, the YMCA of the Fox Cities boasts nearly 200 early childhood educators who operate six childcare centers throughout the community — caring for 750 kids, ages six weeks to six years, every day.
“Our goal is to provide a safe, nurturing environment that supports every child’s growth — socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively — while giving parents peace of mind during the workday,” said Dani Englebert, chief operating officer of the YMCA of the Fox Cities. “We’re proud to partner with the County to serve families and strengthen our community.
