GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A grant is helping the Green Bay Police Department.
On Tuesday, the department was awarded $30,300 in grant funding from the Green Bay Police Foundation for ongoing training, program enhancements, and the purchase of safety equipment.
The department says the grants will help enhance public service and improve the quality of life for the community.
The 2025 Green Bay Police Foundation grants have been awarded to:
- GBPD Peer Support Team: $5,300 (Training)
- GBPD Dive Team: $7,500 (Swift Water Rescue Equipment)
- GBPD Crisis Negotiation Team: $7,500 (Safety Equipment)
- GBPD Wellness Program: $10,000 (Program Enhancements)
Green Bay Community Police Lieutenant Steven Mahoney, says the money going toward swift water rescue will be especially helpful to its dive team.
“With the East River, the Fox River and the bay of Green Bay, we saw a need for swift water rescue. Our dive team is very capable of subsurface searching but we saw need for if anyone gets caught under current or whatever to have the adequate training and equipment to be able to rescue them,” he said.
The Green Bay Police Foundation is an independent non-profit organization comprised of community members and business leaders who provide police with vital resources not covered by the department’s budget.
