GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A shooting at a Pulaski park was continuation of an unspecified ongoing dispute between two groups of teens, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday.
Randy Sanroman, 19, was charged with two counts of second-degree reckless injury, and disorderly conduct. Hailey Tank, 17, was charged with strangulation and battery. Both are expected in court Tuesday afternoon.
In Wisconsin, those ages 17 and older are charged in adult court.
According to the criminal complaints, police responded to Memorial Park about 11:30 p.m. Friday. There, they found two people on the ground: Colton Hansen, 18, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and a 17-year-old girl, who had head pain and numbness.
Tank told police she waved at a passing truck, trying to be friendly, but realized it had people she was not friends with. The two groups met at a convenience store, and then left. She and Sanroman went to the park, where the victims later followed.
“At this time I observed Colton was hold(ing) a knife in his right hand. The knife I observed he had appeared to be a small steak knife, with a dark handle and exposed blade. It was clear to me based on the statements and actions of (the girl) and Colton they were attempting to initiate a fight with my friends and I,” Tank said, according to the criminal complaint.
The girl and Tank fought, while Hansen and Sanroman were engaged.
“I then observed Colton lunge towards Randy, while holding the same knife I described earlier, in his hand. At this time I observed Randy shoot Colton, once, with a pistol style handgun. I heard Colton say “I don’t care if I die” during this time,” the complaint quotes Tank.
Sanroman told police the shooting was in self-defense, claiming Hansen attacked him with a knife.
Hansen told police when he arrived at the park, it was Tank who initiated the fight.
“Hailey approached me and was yelling at me to hit her before I got to Randy. I saw Randy pointing the gun at us. I walked around Hailey and then Hailey went right to (the girl) and started to fight with her. I was sick of the fighting and brought out the knife. I was just trying to get everyone to stop fighting and was about to pull Hailey and the blonde girl off of (the girl) but I did not pull them off. An alcohol bottle was thrown at my chin and it also hit (the girl) in the head. Randy is the one who threw this at us. I went towards Randy with the knife. I had the knife in my right hand but was not swinging the knife around. I was just pointing the knife towards him giving him a warning to stop the fight between the girls. I saw him raise his hand quickly and the gun shot went off. The bullet hit me in the left thigh and I yelled out he just shot me,” Hansen told police.
Those involved referenced previous conflicts among the groups but the details of why they didn’t get along are not cited in the complaint.
