GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — One of Titletown’s all-time great wide receivers is the subject of a new exhibit at the Packers Hall of Fame.
The museum hosted a premiere Thursday for a display titled “Call from Canton” that highlights Sterling Sharpe’s stellar seven seasons (1988-94) with the green and gold.
It comes about two weeks before Sharpe receives his Gold Jacket — the greatest honor for any NFL player.
“We’ve kind of set a precedent here at the Packers Hall of Fame that when anybody gets inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, we’ve always honored their legacy with a special exhibit recognizing their great career with the Green Bay Packers,” said Brent Hensel, curator at the Packers Hall of Fame.
Sharpe was a three-time First-Team All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowl selection. When he retired, he held seven of the Packers’ regular season receiving records and was tied for another two. He also owned three Green Bay postseason records. In 1992, Sharpe won the prestigious receiver triple crown by leading the league in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns.
Sadly, a neck fusion of his top two vertebrae ended Sharpe’s career at age 29.
“We even compared him to other members of Canton, other wide receivers, and he stands at the top,” said Hensel. “If he wouldn’t have gotten hurt, who knows what his numbers would have ended up, because he was just dominant and basically unstoppable when he got the ball in his hands.”
Sterling will join his younger brother, Shannon, in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, becoming the first-ever brother duo to be inducted.
Sharpe is the 29th member of the Packers to be enshrined in Canton.
The Sterling Sharpe exhibit will remain on display at the Packers Hall of Fame until the end of June 2026. It even features a game-worn jersey.
