GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A partnership among area colleges and universities is making it easier for students to transfer credits.
Fox Valley Technical College formally signed articulation agreements Tuesday with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The agreements will create opportunities for students to complete their first two years of general education classes at FVTC, earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree and transfer credits to UW-Milwaukee or UW-Stevens Point to pursue a bachelor’s degree with junior standing.
Officials say the partnership with open exciting new doors for students across the state.
“These collaborations capitalize on one shared mission: to create practical and affordable opportunities for students to succeed in higher education,” said FVTC President Chris Matheny during Tuesday’s news conference.
“Our aim is to build clear pathways that make pursuing a bachelor’s degree more accessible,” added UWSP Chancellor Thomas Gibson. He is preparing to take the reins as UW-Milwaukee chancellor, beginning July 1. “This is of great value to students who are looking for the most efficient pathway to a four-year baccalaureate degree, saving both time and money through transfer credits.”
Each associate degree offered by FVTC consists of 61 credits, including 39-41 credits of general education and 19-21 credits of electives.
At UW-Milwaukee, all FVTC associate degree holders from any graduation year will be guaranteed admission and transfer of at least 60 credits. This means they’ll start at UWM already halfway toward many bachelor’s degrees. They will have access to 103 bachelor’s programs and 105 graduate programs, including the state’s only schools of architecture, freshwater sciences and public health. UWM has the largest and top-rated online education program in Wisconsin and offers more than 900 online courses and 52 fully online degree and certification programs.
At UW-Stevens Point, these transfer guide agreements serve FVTC graduates choosing to enroll in any of more than 70 different baccalaureate programs within four academic colleges. UWSP is highly regarded for its natural resources, education, health and wellness, fine arts, business and economics and STEM programs.
Launched in January 2023, FVTC’s University Transfer Degree (UTD) program currently serves 414 students pursuing an AA/AS degree. These new partnerships with UW-Milwaukee and UW-Stevens Point will expand students’ opportunities and mobility as they continue their education.
