GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Joannes Aquatic Center is officially getting a facelift.
At their meeting Tuesday night, the Green Bay Common Council approved funding for a three-phase master plan to redevelop the more-than 30-year-old attraction.
The cost for the project increased from $9.45 million to $11.4 million.
Phase one costs more than $2.2 million. It includes maintenance needs, like replacing pool gutters and mechanicals, as well as smaller additions like shading in the zero-depth pool area.
At around $1.6 million, phase two includes constructing new water slides. Phase three is the most costly, at $7.5 million. It will add attractions like a splash pad and a lazy river.
Here’s a closer look at the work included in each of the three phases:
Phase 1, $2.2 million
- Water play features
- Aqua Zip
- Hammock garden
- Basketball hoops
- Shade structures
- Pool mechanical upgrades
Phase 2, $1.6 million
- Water slides tower replacement
- Drop slide
- Pool mechanical upgrades
Phase 3, $7.5 million
- New restroom building
- Splash pad
- Lazy river
- Yard games
- Pedal track
- Jumping pillow
- Mechanical building
- Sewer and electrical work
The hope is to begin construction on phase one in fall 2026.
The items in the master plan are separate from the short-term work being done to stabilize the towers for the water slides. As a result of that project, the slides at Joannes Aquatic Center are not expected to open until July.
