GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay’s city council agreed Tuesday night to chip in up to $2.2 million to help move the downtown coal piles.
Brown County and C. Reiss Company agreed last week to a deal that would relocate the coal piles at the Fox River Terminal, which is owned by C. Reiss’ parent company and is currently used to store salt. The salt would be moved to the former Pulliam Power Plant site to make room for the coal.
Green Bay’s money would go toward a new asphalt slab to put the salt.
The money is the first local tax dollars to go toward the more than $30 million project. The rest is being funded using state and federal grants.
C. Reiss released this statement after officials voted Tuesday to support the agreement relocating the coal piles downriver and redeveloping C. Reiss’s Mason Street location:
The steadfast and dedicated leadership of Mayor Eric Genrich has been vitally important to moving this landmark project forward for the Green Bay community. We appreciate the work of the Common Council as we partner together on this effort.
