APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two families were displaced by a duplex fire in Appleton.
It happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of E. Winnebago Street.
The initial call indicated smoke coming from the roof. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke conditions on the second floor. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.
All occupants were evacuated before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
The two families who are displaced are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The caused about $60,000 worth of damage.
Firefighters are working to determine a cause. Properly working smoke alarms were not found in the home. The Appleton Fire Department is reminding residents to check their smoke alarms monthly.
