GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Aerial trauma care in Northeast Wisconsin is getting a boost, thanks to a new partnership between HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and EAGLE III.
Beginning Monday, all EAGLE III helicopter transports will carry whole blood, which contains red blood cells, plasma and platelets.
According to the hospital, providing whole blood treatment while in the air increases patients’ chances of survival and reduces the need for additional blood transfusions later on.
St. Vincent has a team of six nurses who fly with EAGLE III. Each one has completed specialized training, equipping them to safely provide this lifesaving care during helicopter transports.
“We are proud to be among the few in the U.S. offering this level of emergency care in the air,” the hospital said in a Facebook post.
