Jason Reeves (Brown Co. Jail)
(WTAQ-WLUK) – Omro Alderman Jason Reeves faces a federal count of distribution of child pornography.
Reeves, 43, made an initial appearance in federal court in Green Bay Friday. He returns to court Wednesday for a detention hearing, court records show.
According to the federal complaint, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department was alerted to suspicious activity by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Reeves allegedly sent a video file of a naked girl, apparently between 7-10 years old to another person through a chat message. Police went to his home Thursday to execute a search warrant.
“Your affiant identified himself as a detective from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and that a search warrant was being served at the residence. Reeves asked for what. Your affiant informed Reeves that it was for child pornography. Your affiant asked Reeves if he knew anything about that. Reeves replied, “probably”,” the complaint states.
Reeves declined to answer any other questions until he spoke to an attorney.
Police seized various electronic devices. One computer was on when police were at the home.
“Det. Lt. Sewall was able to see that there was a folder on the desktop which read TOR and he also saw an application shortcut for the TOR browser. I know that TOR stands for “The Onion Router” which is a common dark web access point for child pornography and other forms of contraband. That computer was taken for digital extraction and evidence,” the complaint states.
If convicted of this count, Reeves faces between 5 and 20 years in the federal prison system.
