ONEIDA (WTAQ-WLUK) — With the NFL Draft in town, the league and the Green Bay Packers aim to tackle the digital divide for Oneida schools.
The NFL Foundation and the Packers awarded a joint $150,000 grant to non-profit Compudopt, which will gift nearly 500 new and refurbished devices to Oneida Nation students for use in-school and at home.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell joined the tour which included interactive STEM stations and flag football drills led by USA Football.
At the event, Goodell said Green Bay may be the smallest NFL city but it’s the mightiest and provides an iconic setting for this year’s NFL Draft.
“I think this is going to be a great event. This community deserves it, the franchise deserves it and I think it will be great for the NFL and this country,” he said.
“Well the Packers are one of our, obviously, very proud franchises with a long history in the league, and I’d like to say that you could not write the history of the NFL without the Green Bay Packers,” Goodell continued. “I just think it’s such an iconic setting. To have Lambeau Field and all of the incredible games and incredible personalities, players, coaches. To see Vince Lombardi’s trophy right in the distance is really it’s wonderful for us to be able to celebrate our past and our future in one spot,” he said.
