Colorado Rockies prevent Brewers’ sweep

(LEARFIELD/247NEWSSOURCE) – The Colorado Rockies exploded for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday afternoon, salvaging the last game of a three-game series 7-2.

The Brewers were just one-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

William Contreras knocked in Milwaukee’s first run in the fourth, then the tying run scored on a double-play grounder in the top of the eighth.

Colorado took over after that.

Joel Payamps was the losing pitcher, allowing the 5 eighth-inning runs in just 2/3 of an inning.

Quinn Priester worked five innings and allowed one run on five hits in his Brewers debut. He wasn’t involved in the decision.

Priester talked about his Brewers debut.

He said that catcher Eric Haase was a big help.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that Priester needs to improve.

The Brewers had just four hits offensively and Brice Turang saw his 12-game hitting streak come to an end, going 0 for 5.

Murphy said that the Brewers lacked timely hitting.

The Brewers start a weekend series at Arizona Friday night with Eduardo Rodriguez getting the start.
