TOWN OF METOMEN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A residence in Fond du Lac County is considered a total loss after a controlled burn spread from a ditch to a nearby home.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call about a house on Highway 44 in the town of Metomen that was fully engulfed with flames. Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.
First responders entered the home to ensure no one was inside and the residence was confirmed to be empty. Crews extinguished the fire, but the house was destroyed. No one was hurt.
Officials say their initial investigation shows the fire began when a controlled burn in the ditch spread to the home’s lawn and subsequently, the home itself.
