(WTAQ-WLUK) — A driver was arrested Tuesday for operating while intoxicated after a high-speed police chase ended in a crash in Fond du Lac County.
According to a news release, the Kewaskum Police Department was alerted to an “erratic driver” traveling northbound on Fond du Lac Avenue. The witness told police they believed the vehicle’s operator may be under the influence.
An officer located the vehicle in question, reporting it “was all over the road and hit the curb several times.” When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away, reaching speeds of approximately 80 miles per hour.
The chase continued northbound on Highway 45 into Fond du Lac County, as the driver continued to ignore the police’s attempts to conduct a traffic stop.
The vehicle eventually spun out and crashed into a ditch. Officials say the driver, who was uninjured, was arrested for fleeing and eluding, OWI 4th offense, driving with a revoked driver’s license and other traffic violations.
Criminal charges have been requested in Washington County.
Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting the Kewaskum Police Department in investigating the crash.
