ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The residents most affected by the extensive logistics that will go into hosting the NFL Draft received their chance to ask questions to event organizers Thursday evening.
NFL officials have been in town all week finalizing plans and answering questions from government officials, businesses and residents.
Hundreds of people who work and live near Lambeau Field came to Ashwaubenon’s Performing Arts Center wanting to hear more about plans for the NFL Draft from April 24-26.
“We just came to get information on what was going to happen, how things are going to be setup,” said Rusty Gampshure, who lives in Green Bay but plans to park vehicles on properties in the village.
“I really wanted to see what the street closures were going to be like because I do live about six blocks from the stadium,” said Cynthia Feay of Green Bay.
After about a 45-minute presentation, audience members were able to ask questions to draft organizers from the village, Packers, NFL and Discover Green Bay.
Audience questions largely focused on how to navigate road closures and increased traffic during the event.
One Lambeau area resident questioned how residents might get their mail during the three days of the event.
“If it were me personally, and I know this may not be a popular answer, if you’re worried about getting access to your mail, I would maybe place a hold,” said Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski.
Others were more interested about the actual event, like when to be inside the footprint to ensure they’re in before capacity might become an issue.
“There are always times to get in and people will definitely be able to get in, but I would try to stay away from those peak hours of when the show opens on Thursday and Friday because those tend to be the busiest,” said Jennifer Marks, an event director for the NFL and C3 Presents.
Those who attended say they’re pleased with where things are at.
“Anything big in this world today is a little bit frightening in many ways, but I feel really confident with all the security they’ve talked about and all the preparation seems to be really, really well done,” said Nick Nesvacil, an Ashwaubenon resident.
Organizers stress more details are to come and existing plans could change. Keeping an eye on the NFL’s One Pass app is recommended for the most up to date information.
