DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A fire with an explosion was reported Saturday afternoon at a duplex in De Pere, leaving one occupant with minor injuries.
Fox River Fire District were dispatched to the duplex at 2020 Terry Lane in De Pere due to the fire.
One occupant had made their way to the roof of the building to avoid the flames, and was assisted down by occupants in the adjoined duplex.
When units arrived, smoke was showing from all sides of the house and there were signs of an explosion, with multiple windows broken and debris laying in the yard.
The fire was quickly located in the basement and was extinguished by fire personnel from outside.
All occupants made it out of the residence, and some cats were returned by FRFD to their owners.
One occupant was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries from the explosion. All other occupants were evaluated and released from the scene.
The duplex sustained an estimated $550,000 in damages, and is considered a complete loss.
Red Cross was called to assist the residents.
Fire units from Lawrence, Hobart, Ashwaubenon, Morrison, and County Rescue all assisted at the scene.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
