GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rock the Block is back for its second year, and it’s heading to a west-side Green Bay neighborhood this fall.
At a news conference Tuesday, officials announced homes in Fisk Addition will be fixed up during a three-day stretch from Sept. 25-27. Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity is once again partnering with the city of Green Bay for the revitalization effort.
Rock the Block recruits volunteers to participate in various tasks around the designated neighborhood, from exterior beautification and weatherization to safety repairs and home preservation projects.
The goal of the event is to lend a hand to homeowners who haven’t been able to complete the improvements themselves due to challenges like costs, age, physical barriers and/or the amount of work necessary. It also helps keep communities clean and safe, increases property values, unifies and empowers neighbors and boosts homeowner pride.
Last year’s inaugural Rock the Block took place on De Pere’s east side and tackled 34 homes in total. Jessica Diederich, CEO of Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity, said the volunteers’ work made a big difference.
“The transformation was immediately recognized by those who drive through the neighborhood daily, and we received overwhelming responses from community members excited to see the area uplifted,” said Diederich.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich emphasized that while home improvement is the program’s main focus, there’s more to it than that.
The work that’s done is the tangible things that we take away from it, but just as important is the collective impact — us all coming together as friends and neighbors and citizens and doing great work for our community.
Rock the Block 2025 will take place during Good Neighbor Week, an annual community-wide event in the Green Bay area hosted by NeighborWorks Green Bay.
