GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Steave Daniels was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for his role in a 20-hour crime spree which included robbing a convenience store at gunpoint, stealing a car, attempted to rob a second retail outlet, and stealing items from a third.
Daniels, 26, was also placed on extended supervision for 14 years by Judge Marc Hammer.
Daniels was previously convicted of five counts, including two counts of armed robbery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Before the sentence was issued, Daniels apologized for his actions, and said he was making efforts to improve himself.
The co-defendant, Michael Winfield, awaits trial.
According to the criminal complaint, all of the events took place starting April 7, and continued into the next day. The incidents include:
- The two allegedly entered a convenience store in Howard Sunday night. Two men with pistols demanded the cash drawer be opened. The clerk was struck in the face with a gun, and a shot was fired. They left with an unspecified amount of cash and cigarettes.
- On Monday afternoon, police responded to a stolen vehicle report in Bellevue.
- That car was seen at a discount department in Bellevue a short time later, after a report of an attempted armed robbery at the service counter. However, the cash drawer wouldn’t open and the two fled. The stolen vehicle was seen there.
- About 20 minutes later, the stolen vehicle was spotted at another retail store a short distance away. After leaving the store, one was arrested after a traffic stop, while the other was arrested running away from the store.
When interviewed by police, Daniels and Winfield generally denied the allegations and gave differing accounts of their actions during the time of the incidents. Clothing and a gun recovered from the vehicle and an apartment found matched the descriptions from the robberies, and items from the stores — including clothing and the cigarettes — matched, the complaint states.
