GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Gustavo Cantu was convicted in connection with a 2022 murder on the city’s west side, and will be sentenced April 22.
A jury delivered the guilty verdict Tuesday on the count of being party to the crime felony murder-armed robbery for the shooting death of Randall Denny at Perkins and Western avenues on April 30, 2022. Police have said the murder appeared to be tied a drug deal, with prosecutors adding that a theft by Denny – including money, drugs, and weapons – was a motivating factor.
Cantu, 42, had originally been charged with being party to first-degree intentional homicide but was convicted of the lesser charge.
His brother, Alejandro Cantu, was previously convicted of felony murder-battery. A third suspect, Jacob Ventura, offered a statement to police implicating the Cantus, so his case was separated from theirs. No trial date is scheduled; he returns to court March 10.
