GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Port of Green Bay will begin meeting with potential partners for future development at the former Pulliam Plant site, which was purchased for the intent of relocating downtown Green Bay’s coal piles.
The port sent out a request for information for potential partnerships last month, and received responses from eight interested parties for the site. The request came after the county board and C. Reiss Company seemed to be at an impasse about relocating the coal piles to the site.
C. Reiss Company, the owner of the coal piles is one of the interested parties. It provided a response last week to either lease or purchase the property.
County officials say C. Reiss is the only party that provided a written response to the RFI, the other companies called Brown County Port and Resource Recovery Department Director Dean Haen, which the county had requested.
The plan is for Brown County and the Port of Green Bay to begin meeting with the interested parties over the next two weeks to “determine the best path forward.”
The Pulliam Plant site was purchased by Brown County in 2022, as the Port of Green Bay intends to construct a new multi-use port terminal facility on 37.5 acres of land.
The land is currently zoned as general industrial, which may be divided into several sections to provide development options for one or more users.
Port of Green Bay director Dean Haen said in a statement, “We’re excited about the level of interest in discussing what the future of the site at the mouth of the Fox River could look like.”
These discussions will center around supporting job creation, economic development, and moving cargo to support industries statewide.
The Port of Green Bay has 14 active terminal operators located along three miles of the Fox River involved in shipping cargo.
