GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Hosting the NFL Draft comes with a concert series that often includes big-name acts, and league officials say the process is underway to book the acts for this year’s event.
You may remember the last time the NFL put on a free concert outside Lambeau Field. It was for the 2011 home opener to celebrate the Packers’ victory in Super Bowl 45. Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum and Maroon 5 performed for a crowd that was estimated to be over 100,000 people.
The NFL Draft traditionally has an act play on each day of the draft, either before or after that day’s picks are made.
Performers like Fall Out Boy, Motley Crue, Kings of Leon and Big Sean performed at recent drafts.
Jon Barker, senior vice president of global events and international games for the NFL, said the acts for Green Bay will likely be booked between now and early March.
“We start to think about what makes sense for us, where our needs would be, what that looks like,” said Barker. “We’ll start to think about that now. You can’t book artists too far in advance. They don’t know their schedules yet. They don’t know when they’re touring.”
Barker also says decisions are being made on whether there will be a concert on each of the three days, or if they will save acts for a bigger event on one or two of the nights.
Previous recent NFL Draft Concert Series performers include:
- Detroit 2024 – Big Sean (Thursday, before Round 1 picks), Detroit Youth Choir (Friday, before picks) and Bazzi (Saturday, after picks). Friday also had a tribute to Detroit music and fireworks at end of Day 2.
- Kansas City 2023 – Fall Out Boy (Thursday, after Round 1), Motley Crue (Friday, after picks) and Thundercat (Saturday, after picks)
- Las Vegas 2022 – Weezer, Ice Cube and Marshmello (at the end of each night)
- Cleveland 2021 – Kings of Leon (Thursday, before Round 1 picks), Black Pumas (end of Friday) and Machine Gun Kelly
