APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Putting pen to paper, Fox Valley Technical College and Ripon College leaders are opening new doors for students with their new transfer agreement.
Students are able to earn their Associate of Science or Associate of Arts degree at FVTC, then seamlessly transition those credits to Ripon College for a Bachelors degree.
“It gives students choice. It’s important to think of about a student who thrives at an institution like Fox Valley and how we can replicate that personalized education at Ripon College,” said Ripon College President, Victoria Folse.
“That’s very important, because going directly into college is very expensive,” said FVTC student, Aanchal Sapkota. “I always wanted to work in a healthcare system, but I don’t know which path, so I started with University transfer degree.”
The new partnership will add more opportunities for Fox Valley Tech’s University Transfer Degree program, which currently serves 377 students pursuing an Associate Arts or Science degree.
Connor Pitterle is wrapping up his first year at Fox Valley Tech, with hopes of becoming a chemistry teacher after earning his bachelor’s degree.
“It’s just nice to be able to go start off on a very affordable route and then save myself a ton of money and have to take out less loans, you know, for when I transfer,” said Pitterle.
Programs like these can provide a more cost-effective way for students to explore career paths while in school, and college leaders hope it will keep more people in the region after graduating.
“For us, the real mission in this is to be able to take an individual who comes to us, have them get a great education, complete a baccalaureate degree and then go back to work in our local workforce,” said Chris Matheny, President of Fox Valley Technical College.
Both colleges agree there’s room to branch out with additional partnerships in the future.
Ripon and Fox Valley Technical College each have similar transfer agreements with other Colleges and Universities for their students to explore.
