GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One of the suspects from a 2022 murder on the city’s west side was convicted Wednesday.
Alejandro Cantu pleaded no contest to felony murder-battery for his role in the shooting death of Randall Denny at Perkins and Western avenues on April 30, 2022. Police have said the murder appeared to be tied a drug deal, with prosecutors adding that a theft by Denny – including money, drugs, and weapons – was a motivating factor.
He was also convicted of three drug-related offenses. Sentencing is set for March 31.
Cantu had been charged with being party to first-degree intentional homicide, but that was reduced to the felony murder charge.
Cantu was scheduled to stand trial next week with his brother, Gustavo Cantu. That trial is still on the court’s calendar.
A third suspect, Jacob Ventura, offered a statement to police implicating the Cantus, so his case was separated from theirs. No trial date is scheduled; he returns to court March 10.
