(WTAQ-WLUK) — The NFL has one more big event before the NFL Draft is in Green Bay, and local organizers are in New Orleans to recruit people to come here in late April.
Lambeau Field and Green Bay are prominently on display in the Super Bowl’s media row.
“It’s mostly marketing, promoting, getting people to come up, answering questions from the media about what to expect,” said Nick Meisner of Discover Green Bay, who is on the draft’s local organizing committee.
The host team for upcoming drafts and Super Bowls get spots on media row to gain exposure that goes well beyond the site of the big game.
“I know some people have talked to stations from Canada,” said Meisner. “We talked to one from New Orleans, the Spanish radio broadcast. There’s an outlet out of the UK that we’ve been talking to and then we’re just kind of hopping around to all the different stations.”
With the draft being less than 80 days away, organizers say it isn’t too late to be marketing the event.
“Given this is a free event, quite often the bookings are later in the process,” said Brad Toll, President & CEO of Discover Green Bay. “I know we do have some availability yet. I’m pretty confident it will be completely full as well as all the surrounding areas once we get closer to the draft date.”
In New Orleans, the replica Lambeau Field has proved to be a popular marketing tool. If that wasn’t enough, the Packers brought their top chef down to serve brats, booyah, and cheese curds.
“Definitely a lot of explanation of booyah, a lot of people wondering what that dish is,” said Meisner.
The goal is a taste will help start planning some trips north.
Green Bay Police and PMI Entertainment Group also have representatives in New Orleans who are part of the draft’s local organizing committee.
