FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A suspected impaired driver was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in Fond du Lac.
Around 11:32 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a reckless driving complaint in the area of W. Johnson Street and N. Peters Avenue.
The witness said the dark-colored SUV was swerving between lanes, operating without headlights and attempted to ram the witnesses’ vehicle.
The witness was able to safely pull over and meet with a police officer while additional officers searched the area for the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was spotted going east on W. Johnson Street near N. Pioneer Road and attempted to make a traffic stop.
The vehicle continued east, going through several intersections before it made a U-turn at N. Seymour Street to W. Johnson Street before initially pulling over. Officers ordered the driver out of the vehicle, but the 30-year-old woman did not comply and sped off on W. Johnson Street.
Officers pursued the vehicle west on W. Johnson Street out of the city. Speeds reached approximately 65 mph. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol joined the pursuit. Stop-Sticks, a tire deflation device, was successfully deployed near Highway 23 and County Road Y where the driver then slowed down and pulled over.
The vehicle pursuit was approximately six miles and took approximately six minutes.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody and is being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail on criminal charges, including Recklessly Endangering Safety, Fleeing/Eluding, and Operating While Impaired.
