FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The man accused of setting fire to a Northeast Wisconsin congressman’s office over the short-lived TikTok ban appeared in court Wednesday.
Caiden Stachowicz, 19, of Menasha, is charged with arson, attempted burglary, criminal damage to property and terrorist threats.
A $500,000 cash bond was set and he is due back in court Jan. 30 for a preliminary hearing.
Stachowicz was arrested Sunday, shortly after crews extinguished a fire at U.S. Representative Glenn Grothman’s office, located at a strip mall on N. Peters Ave. in Fond du Lac.
No one was injured during the fire, but Grothman’s office sustained damage.
Police had said Stachowicz admitted to starting the fire in response to the federal government’s attempts to ban TikTok in the United States, which Rep. Grothman voted in favor of.
Grothman is a Republican who represents Wisconsin’s 6th congressional district. He was first elected to his seat in 2014.
